Mairead O’ Sullivan née McCarthy, Coomgira, Adrigole, Beara, Co. Cork and formerly of Stagmount, Headford, Killarney.
MAIRÉAD aged 56 years, passed away on Thursday 25th of June 2026 in the CUH in the presence of her loving family, after living well with Breast Cancer since October 2007.
She was wife and best friend to Neil and mother to her three sons, Neil, Diarmuid and Gavin. Predeceased by her parents Jerry and Maime McCarthy. Sister to Seán, Maurice, Sheila (Boherbue) and Maura Gallivan (Kilcummin). Aunt to Gerard and Mary McCarthy & Conor and Jerry Gallivan. Godmother to Fiona O’ Donoghue, Mary McCarthy, Orla Sullivan and Jerry Gallivan.
She will be missed by Neil’s siblings, Marie Carey, Owen, Seán (Ballylickey) & Catherine Hurley (Enniskeane), Diarmuid’s girlfriend Áine Spencer, her sister in law Hannah, brother in law Denis and Sheila’s partner Rodger Casey. She is deeply missed by her family, aunts, cousins, work colleagues in the Bantry Beara HSE Community Care and Home Help Services and her wide circle of friends.
A special word of thanks and appreciation to Aisling and Jeremy Cotter and all in Glengarriff Medical Centre, the staff in the Dunmanway Suite in CUH and in particular to Dr. Seamus O’ Reilly and the oncology nurse, Maeve.
Her remains will repose in Harrington’s Funeral Home in Castletownbere from 4 – 7 pm on Sunday 28th June. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 12 noon on Monday 29th June in St. Fachtna’s Church, Adrigole, followed by burial in Kilcaskin Cemetery. Her family will be in attendance at the church from 11am.
