Dr Richard McElligott is lecturer in modern Irish history at UCD. He says there was no other county where the Civil War was most bitterly and brutally fought. Some resentments endure. Because of this he says Kerry needs to take ownership of Civil War commemorations and a Kerry historian in residence should be appointed.
