The Labour party wants the Government to bring in legislation that would give up to 20 days’ paid time off to workers recovering from the loss of an early pregnancy – that is a pregnancy under 24 weeks. Currently, women are not entitled to leave if the pregnancy loss occurs before 24 weeks.
Alan O’Brien spoke to Marita Hennessy of the UCC Pregnancy Loss Research Group, who is one of the authors of the PLACES – Pregnancy Loss in Workplaces report, which was commissioned by the department responsible for equality back in 2022. He asked her if she thinks the proposed 20 days off as set out in Labour’s bill is enough.
