Testing has been increased after the first suspected case of bluetongue on the island of Ireland. Two cows were culled after concerns were raised at an abattoir in Co Down. The disease is spread by midges and while it is not a threat to humans or to food safety, it can very serious for cloven-hoofed animals including cattle and sheep.
