Tributes are being paid to the great Irish soprano who has died at the age of 93. Veronica or ‘Ronnie’ as she was known made an immense contribution to music. Her life was as vivid as her voice. At the age of 18, she travelled to Rome for classical voice training. There she became friends with Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty, the Kerry priest who helped save the lives of thousands of Jewish people and members of the Allied forces in Rome during World War II. Monsignor O’Flaherty’s niece Pearl Dineen and Jerry O’Grady of the Hugh O’Flaherty Memorial Society remember her.
