This week, 40-year-old David Saunders from Rathmore died of cancer. It was the third time he got the disease; he had it twice as a child and it resulted in him losing a leg before his 12th birthday. David was a much-loved husband, father, son, brother and friend. He was an exceptional sportsperson who played international soccer for Ireland and was a member of Cork City FC’s amputee team. He was a respected teacher. His friend and Cork City team-mate Patrick Hickey pays tribute to him.
