Yellow weather warning issued for Cork – but not yet for Kerry – as Arctic storm approaches

Kerry’s Emergency Co-Ordination Team are planning for the coming todays but wish to remind people not all routes may be salted.
A low temperature warning has been issued for the entire country tonight with air temperatures of 0 to minus 5 Celsius tonight and widespread severe frost.
A status yellow weather warning has been issued for Cork – but not yet for Kerry.

The arrival of the so-called ‘Beast from the East’ cold snap has sparked panic buying of basic food items like bread and milk in some parts of the country.

Shelves were left empty in some shops.

Last night saw sub zero temperatures nationwide, and a Status Orange weather snow-ice warning comes into effect for many eastern counties this afternoon.

The worst of weather’s not due until tomorrow and Thursday as Storm Emma approaches, bringing blizzard conditions.

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar says the government’s monitoring the situation closely:
