Work expected to begin on the Shannon LNG terminal in north Kerry in January

Work on the long-awaited Shannon LNG terminal in north Kerry should start just after Christmas.

That’s according to Secretary of the Tarbert Development Association, John Fox.

Last week it was revealed that US-based company, New Fortress Energy, is to develop the liquified natural gas terminal on the Tarbert-Ballylongford landbank.

Planning permission was granted in 2008 for the €500 million project, however, it’s been beset by delays.

Mr Fox says work needs to start soon to ensure the plant is up and running in two years time.
