Work on conserving Kerry Slug as part of Macroom Bypass costing €2 million

Work on conserving the Kerry Slug as part of the Macroom Bypass development is costing €2 million.

The slug is a protected species under the EU Habitats Directive, and is found in parts of Kerry and Cork, as well as Portugal.

A condition of the bypass development is the movement of the Kerry Slug from where the road is being built to a new area.

The 22-kilometre dual carriageway between Ballyvourney and Macroom on the N22 Kerry Cork road will cost €214 million overall.
