Winners of 2018 Hugh O’Flaherty Award announced

The recipients of the Hugh O’Flaherty International Humanitarian Award have been announced.

The accolade is in honour of the Killarney monsignor, who was instrumental in saving 6,500 lives during World War Two in Rome.

For the first time, the award won’t be presented to an individual or single organisation, but to three organisations – the Irish Coast Guard, the RNLI and the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team.

It’ll be presented by Cathaoirleach of Killarney, John Sheahan at a special ceremony on the 3rd of November.
