West Kerry groups express disappointment at resignation of Language Commissioner

Oidhreacht Chorcha Dhuibhne and Comharchumann Forbartha Chorca Dhuibhne have expressed their disappointment at the resignation of Language Commissioner Sean O Cuirreain. Mr O Cuirreain resigned as Language Commisioner earlier this week citing concerns over the lack of progress in ensuring Irish speakers can deal withthe State in Irish. Comharchumann Forbartha Chorca Dhuibhne The west Kerry groups say that Mr O Cuirreain  believed that little headway was being made regarding the Irish language in state institutions, and that language plans were being left to languish. In a statement issued today, they say that the Gaeltacht communitys language rights under the Official Languages Act are being denied inside offices of State. State employees must be happy to serve people in Irish, without excuses, and public administration systems must have enough staff with a working knowledge of Irish according to the groups. Comharchumann Forbartha Chorcha Dhuibhne and Oidhreacht Chorcha Dhuibhne have called for Mr O Cuirreains work to be continued to ensure a strong Gaeltacht community in the years to come.
