In the Preliminary Round of the Moran’s of Dingle West Kerry Senior Football Championship 2018 Lispole beat Castlegregory in Páirc Sheáin Uí Bharóid, Lispole last Saturday, Lispole 3-10 to 0-9 Castlegregory. This victory means that Lispole will now play Annascaul in the semi-final.
Sean Ó Nuanáin opened the scoring for Lispole with a point from play. Castlegregory responded with a Brandon Hoare point from play and a Jimmy O’Grady point from a free kick. A point from play from Cathal Ó Súilleabháin and a pointed free from Deaglán Ó Súilleabháin put Lispole ahead by one. Shortly after a long ball found its way to Cathal Ó Súilleabháin who put Deaglán Ó Súilleabháin through to score Lispole’s first goal. The score after 15 minutes of play was Lispole 1-3 to 0-2 Castlegregory.
Cathal Ó Súilleabháin kicked points from a free and a 45 to extend Lispole’s lead. Another long probing ball into the heart of the Castlegregory defence broke to Lispole’s Sean Ó Nuanáin, who duly buried the ball in the Castlegregory net. Castlegregory responded with a pointed free from Jimmy O’Grady and when Referee Seamus Mulvihill blew the whistle for half time the scoreboard in Páirc Sheáin Uí Bharóid read Lispole 2-5 to 0-3 Castlegregory.
Castlegregory started the second half with two pointed frees from Anto Kelleher to leave them two goals behind. Lispole responded with two Cathal Ó Súilleabháin points from free kicks. Jimmy O’Grady kicked a point from play for Castlegregory. From the resulting kickout won by Micheál ‘Jim’ Mac Gearailt, another long ball found its way to Lispole’s Brian Ó Raoil who gave Castlegregory keeper Kevin O’Dowd no chance when he scored his sides third goal. Another Jimmy O’Grady point from play for Castlegregory kept them in the match. The score after 15 minutes played in the second half, Lispole 3-7 to 0-7 Castlegregory
Castlegregory rallied and two Jimmy O’Grady points, one from play and one from a free kick left them trailing by seven. Unfortunately for Castlegregory, Lispole were not going to allow a comeback and they added further points, Brian Ó Raoil with one from play and two Cathal Ó Súilleabháin points from free kicks to secure the win.
