A well-known South Kerry hotel is due to cease operating, following objections to proposed redevelopment plans.
A public meeting was held last night in Ballinskelligs, in relation to recent objections received to the proposed development of Cable O’Leary’s.
Kerry County Council had granted planning permission to OS Properties to demolish the existing hotel and build a new 45 bedroom, three-suite hotel including a bar, restaurant and gym.
This, however, was appealed by two parties to An Bord Pleanála, who then refused permission.
A South Kerry community group had said An Bord Pleanála didn’t take the economic needs of developments into account.
In a statement seen by Radio Kerry, Tower Holdings Group, owner of Cable O’Leary’s, says the most recent outcome has resulted in an intended operator to lose interest in the project.
As a result, considering the condition of the building, Cable O’Leary’s will be forced to close its doors.
The group did not give a date for the closure.
