Wednesday Morning Sports Update

Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy says Troy Parrott could be a part of his plans for the Euro 2020 qualifiers in Georgia and Switzerland next month if he forces his way into the Tottenham first team.

Parrott scored twice as Stephen Kenny’s Under 21’s won 3-1 in Sweden.

The senior side also won 3-1 against Bulgaria in a friendly at Lansdowne Road.

Jack Byrne came off the bench and the Shamrock Rovers man helped set up the goals for Kevin Long and James Collins to clinch the victory.

McCarthy says Byrne could be an impact sub in the upcoming qualifiers.

And the manager is noticing how well Kenny’s youngsters are doing.

England defeated Kosovo 5-3 in their Euro 2020 qualifier in Southampton.

Gareth Southgate’s men have maximum points in Group A, with Jadon Sancho (PRON: Jaydon) scoring twice in the win.

The Irish squad will travel to Japan today ahead of the World Cup.

Joe Schmidt’s men will first face Scotland in Yokohama City on Sunday week.

Two more of Ireland’s Pool A opponents will feature in the tournament opener when hosts Japan play Russia in Tokyo on Friday the 20th.

Meanwhile, London Irish have decided to leave Paddy Jackson out of their squad for a pre season friendly against Munster at Musgrave Park on Friday night.
