Ward to be closed at Tralee General Hospital.

A 30 bed ward at Tralee General Hospital is to be closed for the months of July, August and September. The Southern Health Board made the announcement this lunchtime and cited budgetary reasons for the move. In the first quarter of this year TGH has exceeded its budget by 600 thousand euro and the board says a ward closure will assist the hospital to remain within its 54 million euro yearly allowance. There will also be a reduction in the number of out-patient clinics during specific holiday periods. Hospital General Manager Margie Lynch says the closure will not effect emergency services but will reduce elective surgery.
