Waiting time for means-tested civil legal aid reduced to 26 weeks

The waiting time for means-tested civil legal aid assistance has been reduced to 26 weeks after reaching 46 weeks at the start of the month.

Carol Anne Coolican, who’s the managing solicitor of the Tralee Law Centre, which helps those seeking civil legal aid says additional staff have been recruited.

Ms Coolican says they had been appealing to the Legal Aid Board for more funding to employ additional staff given the demand for the service in Kerry.

She says it’s also been helpful the extra sittings that have been arranged for family court hearings and praised Judge David Waters for this.
