Valentia Coast Guard co-ordinates rescue of two people 170 milles off Castletownbere

Two men have been rescued from a rowing boat off the coast of Castltownbere

Valentia Coast Guard Radio Station received an EPIRB emergency distress signal from the small craft at 9 o’clock this morning with two people on board.

The craft was 170 nautical miles west, south west of the coast of Castownbere.

Rescue helicopter 117 attended the scene and the Air Corps plane Casa provided air cover.

Two men in their early twenties were airlifted to University Hospital Kerry at around 3 o’clock today.

Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening
