Irish Water is to hold a consultation session with An Bord Pleanala ahead of submitting plans for an extension and upgrade of Kenmare’s wastewater treatment plant.
Funding for the scheme was approved last year.
Capacity issues at the wastewater treatment plant at Market Street have been cited by An Bord Pleanala during recent planning permission refusals in Kenmare.
This included a development of 55 houses and a motorhome park.
The planning appeals board pointed to the fact that the existing plant could not process additional load.
In December, Irish Water confirmed that funding of €10 million had been approved to extend and upgrade the Kenmare Wastewater Treatment plant and a consulting engineer had been appointed.
Irish Water is now seeking a pre-application consultation with An Bord Pleanala ahead of a planning application being submitted.
The utility previously said it was hoping to begin construction later this year with a planned completion date of 2022.
