Up to 30,000 children to be vacinated for Meningitis

The Health Service Executive estimate that 30,000 children between the ages of six months and four years in the Kerry and Cork region will need the catch up booster vaccine for meningitis. To date this year there has been one case of H.I.B. meningitis in the HSE southern area.The most recent H.I.B vaccine uptake statistics for Kerry and Cork show vaccination rates of 83% for children at 12 months, while uptake is at 92% at 24 month age grouping. The target date for the start of the booster vaccine campaign begins in November, a letter will be sent to parents of children in the appropriate age group giving them details of how to get their child vaccinated.
