Unions and Transmould management begin talks in Killarney

Talks are underway in Killarney between unions and management after the announcement that manufacturing company Transmould is to close with the loss of over 70 jobs. Established in 1989 Transmould ltd is based in the Ballyspillane Industrial Estate and manufactures a range of fire detectors and plastic injection componentsIn a statement released to Radio Kerry News today Managing Director John Sheehan says it’s no longer economically possible to maintain production and its likely operations will cease by September of next year. The workforce have been advised of developments and the first redundancies will take effect in early 2005. Siptu ,which represents the workers, is now meeting with local management to discuss the way forward. Union representative Donal Tobin says this is a major set back for Killarney.
