Two year jail sentence handed down to Mid Kerry ‘sneak thief’

A Polish man who pleaded guilty to nine robberies in the mid Kerry area has been sentenced to four years in prison with two years suspended on condition that he keeps the peace. 31 year old Daniel Mirga was described in court by Judge Donagh McDonagh as a sneak thief who went on the rampage in mid Kerry and abused the hospitality of his neighbours. Gavel 3 Mr Mirga with an address at 19 Ashe Street, Tralee was charged with theft of property worth over €13,000 from nine different homes in mid-Kerry. 6000 euro worth has been recovered. A garda involved in the investigation told the court previously that the victims were constantly checking their doors and windows since the robberies. Mr Mirga was living in Shanara, Beaufort when the offences occurred in 2013. As well as nine counts of theft, he also pleaded guilty to handling stolen property at his home. Tralee Circuit Court previously heard that Mr Mirga, a father of four wanted to return to Poland as soon as possible, however Judge Donagh McDonagh was told that this was no longer the case. He sentenced Mr. Mirga to four years in prison with two years suspended on condition that he keeps the peace.
