Two sites have been identified for a potential playground for Firies.
Environmental Officer with Kerry County Council Mícheál Ó Coileáin confirmed meetings between the Council and locals had taken place in relation to the two sites.
Mícheál Ó Coileáin said access to both sites, close to Firies village, requires further investigation and the environmental officer confirmed a second meeting had been organised.
Cathaoirleach of Killarney Municipal District Cllr Brendan Cronin said schools in Firies are ‘bursting at the seams’ and provision needs to be made for children in the area.
A playground is a requirement every ‘urbanised village’ he said and the funding and community spirit are there to make it a reality for Firies.
Cllr Maura Healy Rae the identification of the sites was very positibe; she said Firies was ‘heavily populated’ and people there would be very happy upon hearing of this development.
