A vessel is currently being towed ashore after breaking down off Scariff Island just a short time ago.

Valentia Coast Guard received the call just around half past five this evening.

Valentia Lifeboat were sent to the scene, and the vessel is expected to be ashore shortly.

In an unrelated incident, a father and child were brought ashore after being caught in a riptide on surf boards near Castlegregory.

Fenit lifeboat and R115 were both called, but the pair were taken safely to shore by a member of the Jamie Knox Surf School in Castlegregory.
