Two Kerry marine projects may be fiancially questionable.

A new report claims two marine projects in the county are economically and financially questionable. Both projects Kenmare and Cahirciveen Marina’s were funded by the Exchequer. A Civil Service Report into the funding says both failed to meet certin criteria laid down in the National Development Plan. In a report into how funding is spent, General Secretary at the Department of the Marine Brendan Touhy says there is an accountability limbo in The Department. He says the Kenmare and Cahirciveen projects got the go ahead despite their shortcomings because there was a considerable political will for them to progress. The projects have been discussed at a joint Oireachtas meeting, where Former Marine Minister Frank Fahey defended his decision to the sanction funding. Mr Touhy told the committee the plans for the two marinas are economically and financially questionable. He added that issues exist over the future liability of the marinas if any accidents or injuries occur.
