Two historic buildings in South Kerry to be added to Record of Protected Structures

Two historic buildings in South Kerry are due to be added to the Record of Protected Structures.

It had been proposed to add the Single Storey Structure, the Cable Field, Valentia Island and the First Message Building, Knightstown to the record, in order to ensure their protection.

Kerry County Council says both buildings have key roles as part of Valentia’s Trans-Atlantic Cable history.

Councillors of the South & West Municipal District received a report on the buildings, along with a recommendation that the structures be added to the record.

They subsequently approved the submission, meaning the buildings will be added to the Record of Protected Structures in the near future.
