Two allegations that alleged conduct of Kerry gardaí resulted in death or serious harm

The garda watchdog, GSOC, says two referrals were received from the Kerry Garda Division last year where the alleged conduct of an officer resulted in the death of, or serious harm to a person.

Nationally, GSOC received 38 such referrals in 2018.

The DPP directed that four cases be prosecuted while another four were awaiting a decision at the end of last year.

The watchdog’s annual report also says 86 allegations were made against gardaí in Kerry last year.

Nationally almost 3,000 allegations were made against the force in 2018 – the majority related to officers’ conduct of investigations, road policing and customer service.
