TTC to apply for funding for CCTV cameras

Tralee Town Council is to apply for funding for the installation of CCTV cameras in the three rapid areas of the town. The aim of these cameras are to increase public safety and to reduce the risk of anti-social behaviour and criminal activity. The three rapid areas in Tralee are Shanakill/Rahoonane, Spa Road/Balloonagh Estate, and Mitchell`s Crescent/St. Martin’s Park.The Council will be responsible for the cameras which will record 24 hours a day and will be monitored at on peak times. The cameras are to be located in areas such as children`s playground and will be available on the request of communities. The funding will include 100,000 Euro from the Department of Justice, which will then be matched by a furture 100,000 Euro from The Department of Community Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs under the rapid area programme.
