Treble For O’Brien At The Curragh

Aidan O’Brien’s dominance of the Group 2 Juddmonte Beresford Stakes continued at the Curragh on Sunday thanks to Port Douglas who caused a shock under Emmet McNamara who was enjoying his first ever success at Group level. Both Beacon Rock and Unicorn were shorter in the market but it was Port Douglas who came out on top of O’Brien’s trio as he fought bravely inside the final furlong to deny True Solitaire by a short-head. He was returned at odds of 14-1 and gave the Ballydoyle maestro his 15th win in the race. O’Brien also won the Group 3 Weld Park Stakes with Coolmore who stayed on powerfully under his son Joseph to beat Anamba by half-a-length. She was returned the 5-2 second favourite. O’Brien had three winners on the afternoon as Ryan Moore made a winning Irish return on 2-1 favourite Hit It A Bomb in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden. After a disappointing week in the final of the Nations Cup Denis Lynch made amends by taking the 153,000 euro City of Barcelona Grand Prix. Ireland finished 5th in the Nations Cup but Lynch produced a brilliant clear round in the jump off with his horse All star to take the title.
