Kerry County Council says the transfer to lands on the Tralee Fenit railway line should be complete in the coming week, but there’s no funding to progress the walk and cycle way.
The local authority was responding to a call for an update on the Tralee to Fenit Amenity Trail from Labour Councillor Terry O’Brien.
The council says with the land legally transferred to them from CIE, they’ll start preparing a planning application.
They’ve noted, however, that there’s no funding in place to start work, and that it’s a multi-million-euro project that requires funding from a national level.
Cllr O’Brien says he’s very disappointed with this response, saying the first stage of the greenway from the town centre to the Bracker O’Regan has been a great success, and people want to see the project completed.
