A Tralee woman who was resident in a mother and baby home has given her reaction to the latest investigation.
Catherine Coffey O’Brien, a member of the Traveller community, was raised in an industrial school and was also sent to the Bessborough Mother and Baby Home in Cork.
She ran away from the home when seven months pregnant.
Yesterday, a commission of investigation into mother and baby homes says it’s not feasible to excavate at Bessborough Home, where it’s believed 900 children are buried.
Mrs Coffey O’Brien, who is running for the Workers’ Party in Cork City, is calling for an archaeologist to undertake a forensic examination of the property.
She knows of many people who are seeking closure.
