Matt O Neil reports on this game

Team Tom McCarthy’s St. Mary’s Castleisland lost 69-65 to Portlaoise Panthers in Women’s Division 1.
Mary’s lost out in the dying seconds. The home side led by 13 midway through the final period. They were ahead by 7 with 1.40 on the clock but Lorraine Scanlon sustained an injury and both Denise Dunlea and Meabh Barry were fouled out as the clock ran down. Great defence by the visitors in the last few minutes prevented the home side from shooting. Portlaoise were accurate time and time again from the free throw line and with six seconds to go they hit two from the line to go 1 ahead. Mia Hopkins had an opportunity from the free throw line but failed to convert, unlike Sinead Melia and Claire Wheeler who hit three from four as the clock ran down to take the game.
