Tralee man charged with sisters murder

25 year old Robert O`Brien has been charged with the murder of his sister Elizabeth Mc Carthy in September of last year. Following direction from the DPP Supt Pat O`Sullivan told today`s sitting of Tralee District Court that the previous charge of manslaughter will now be withdrawn. Giving evidence Detective Srg John Brennan told the court that Robert O`Brien with addresses at bay 3 the halting site, Dingle road, Tralee and St John`s Park, Castleisland was arrested this morning at 11.17 at Ashe Street Tralee. When charged with the murder of his sister he had nothing to saySuper Pat O`Sullivan made an application that O`Brien be remanded in custody to Cork Prison to appear before Court in Cork on February 16th when the charge of manslaughter will be withdrawn. The Superintendent said The Book of Evidence on the murder charge will then be ready within 2 weeks. Solicitor for the accused Pat Mann said the time it had taken to prepare the fresh charges was unsatisfactory. Detective Brennan replied by saying the investigation was lengthily and complex while Super O`Sullivan said Garda resources are stretched as it’s the 3rd murder in the district since early September. Judge Terrence Finn granted The State’s application and O`Brien will appear in court again on next Wednesday
