Tralee man beats Irish record in the South Pole.

Tralee mountaineer Mike Barry has beaten the Irish record at the South Pole set by Sir Ernest Shackleton. He is currently less than 90 miles away from the end, which is the furthest an Irishman has ever travelled into the South Pole. High winds and low temperatures have slowed the group this week to 10 miles daily but they are expectng to reach their destination in about a week. Once there they’ll be flown back out when weather conditions suit. Mags Barry his wife says that she is delighted that he has travelled so far and that she is looking forward to him coming home.
