Tralee cllr says she earned her nomination at Fine Gael convention

finegaelA Tralee Town Councillor says she worked hard to earn her nomination at the local Fine Gael selection convention. Last Friday night at the Fine Gael Tralee Electoral Area convention it was announced that the gender quota directive would be implemented, meaning that of the three candidates going forward to contest next year’s local elections, one would have to be female. Pat Hussey, Jim Finucane, Pat McCarthy, Mairead Fernane and Grace O’ Donnell had put their names forward; however Cllr Hussey withdrew his name saying he strongly objected to the directive. Tralee Town Councillor Grace O’ Donnell who was nominated along with Jim Finucane and Pat McCarthy, says the female quota is here to stay, but feels she earned her place.
