Tralee born Priest is accused of sex abuse in the U.S.

A Tralee born Priest is at the centre of a child sex abuse allegation in Los Angeles. 67 year old Fr. George Foley is accused of sexually abusing a young girl. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles revealed documents on 126 priests who have served in its diocese from the 1920’s to the present time, and who are now at the centre of multi million dollar law suits.Among the 126 named is Tralee native Father George Foley, who is described as having person problems, involvement with women and wine and to have sexually abused a young girl. He left the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in 1974. 17 of the priests on the list were born or ordained in Ireland, nine of the accused are still alive and some still serving in parishes in the Archdiocese of L.A where just one member has been cleared by the church authorities. These fresh allegations have caused anger in the U.S, particularly as it has emerged that eight Priests were allowed to remain in contact with children after receiving complaints that they were paedophiles. Settlement negotiations between the Archdiocese and the claimants are continuing.
