Tom Crean Society group to follow in his footsteps.

An 11 strong team of people began a trip to Antarctica this morning following in the footsteps of Tom Crean. They are due to arrive in Tierra Del Feugo tomorrow and will stay there for a number of days to acclimatize. Group leader Maeve Kelly from Annauscaul says the idea for the adventure came from the notion that Tom Crean was an ordinary person who achieved extraordinary things. The team is bringing a hand carved memorial stone sourced in minard where Tom Crean left from to join the royal navy in 1893. This will be left in the South Georgia museum. A similar stone is to be sourced from South Georgia and this will be laid at the Tom Crean memorial in Annauscaul. The initial part of the journey will be undertaken on board the Polar Star and the group from the Tom Crean society will be joined by members of the Royal Geographic Society. The 11 member team was sent off by johanathon Shackleton and Brendan crean O` Brien this morning and they will return on February 13th.
