Three people taken to court for offences related to Social Welfare Fraud

Three people have been taken to court this year to face prosecution for offences related to Social Welfare Fraud. No prison sentences were handed down, but at Tralee District Court in January a person was fined 1200 euro and in April a second person received a fine of 500 euro.A third case went before Listowel District Court in May but that has been adjourned with leave to re-enter. The details come as the Department of Social and Family Affairs announced anti-fraud savings of 206 million euro during the first six months of this year – an increase of nearly 30 million on the last six months of 2004.
