Three Listowel gardaí rescue man from fire

Three gardaí from Listowel rescued a man after a fire broke out in his apartment in the town overnight. Gardaí Garda Ronan Kelliher, Garda Aoife O’Connell and Garda Frank Stafford saved the life of the man who was asleep in his flat in College Cross. At around five to two this morning, a resident of the apartments in College Cross noticed smoke coming from one of the other flats. This person contacted Listowel Garda Station. Three gardaí – Ronan Kelliher, Aoife O’Connell and Frank Stafford – responded to the call. They gained entry to the apartment by breaking the glass of the front door. The occupant, a 61-year-old man, was asleep. The blaze appears to have been started by a saucepan that caught fire on a cooker. Two units of the fire service also attended. Gardaí say the man in the apartment was unharmed and there’s only  minor smoke damage to the building.
