The Department of Environment will decide who votes in a plebiscite

The Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht affairs says it will be up to Dick Roche to decide who will be eligible to vote in a plebiscite on the issue surrounding the Dingle name change. Eamonn O Cuiv says it’s a matter for the Minister for the Environment under the local government act.Members of Kerry County Council have unanimously agreed to initiate the process to change the name of Daingean to “Dingle, Daingean Ui Cuis”.Dingle guesthouse owner, John Curran says the majority of his guests do not know the town is in a Gaeltacht area, nor do they know what a Gaeltacht is. He says it’s essential that the “Dingle” brand is retained.
