TD says major health service gaps in counties such as Kerry

Fianna Fail TD James Brown says waiting times for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health service are a ‘stain on the legacy’ of the government.

He says HSE figures show over 2 thousand 691 children and young adults are waiting for a mental health appointment, with 386 of those waiting longer than a year.

Deputy Browne says waiting times are getting longer with major service gaps in some counties such as Kerry and Cork.

The HSE says the problem is being hampered by problems recruiting and retaining mental health professionals.
