Tipperary TD Alan Kelly says the Labour party needs a radical shake-up and Brendan Howlin is not the right person to do it.
Speaking to his local radio station Tipp FM he also said he would be willing to put his name forward if a vacancy arises.
Mr Howlin has been leader since 2016 after the party lost all but seven of its seats in the Dail.
A number of councillors, including Kerry Labour Cllr Terry O’Brien, have already called for a change of leader and Deputy Kelly agrees.
