TD says HSE still has questions to answer on delayed diagnosis of patients at UHK

A Kerry TD says the HSE still has questions to answer on the delayed diagnosis of patients at University Hospital Kerry.

A review of over 46,000 scans, which was published last December, found that the scans of 11 patients were misread by a locum radiologist between March 2016 and July 2017; this radiologist no longer works at the hospital.

These 11 people suffered delayed diagnosis which had a serious impact on their health, and the South/South West Hospital Group has confirmed that seven of these people have now died.

Deputy Danny Healy-Rae says serious questions need to be answered about the volume of work radiologists are expected to do.
