Tralee taxi drivers are staging a protest on Bridge Street over what they say is the council’s refusal to engage meaningfully with them to provide a suitable alternative rank.
Drivers say the new taxi rank located near Tesco in the town centre is not working as it not visible enough and in an area that is unsafe late at night.
Kerry County Council says it remains in discussion around a number of proposals for additional temporary ranks but it would be inappropriate to discuss these through the media at this time.
Chairman of Tralee Taxi Association, Terry Boyle says drivers will keep up their protest for as long as necessary but will move from Bridge Street if requested by gardaí to do so.
Meanwhile, driver Brendan O’Sullivan, says his income has dropped by around half since the rank was moved from the Mall.
