Lee Strand U-16 County Football League Division 2 Final
Firies 2.13 Kenmare Shamrocks 1.15

A strong last quarter turned the Final in favour of Firies. Conditions were perfect for football and we saw a brilliant exhibition of football from both sides. Kenmare had the best of the first half after a cagey opening ten minutes which saw the teams level at 2 points each. Kenmare’s Jamie Regan goaled, after reacting to a breaking ball on the edge of the small square. Firies had a chance to goal themselves but Dylan O’Callaghan hit the post with his effort. This gave Kenmare the confidence they needed and with Cian O’Connor scoring 7 of their points, they led 1.08 to 0.05 at half time.

The first quarter of the second saw some great scores being taken by both teams as excitement reached fever pitch. Cian O’Connor continued his scoring feats while Cian Doe and Brian Burke led the way for Firies. Goals win games and this was the case in the last quarter. Firies hit the net with efforts from Brian Burke and Dylan O’Callaghan. Firies led by three points going into injury time. Kenmare nearly goaled from a Cian Hanley effort but Gearoid Doyle pulled off an important stop to his left. Kenmare narrowed the deficit to a point but a last gasp effort just drifted to wrong side of the post to leave Firies champions on a score line of Firies 2.13 Kenmare Shamrocks 1.15

My man of the match has to go to Kenmare’s Cian O’Connor who scored 11 of his sides points off both left and right foot.
