Strict visitor restrictions remain at UHK due to winter vomiting bug

Strict visitor restrictions remain at University Hospital Kerry due to an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.

Visiting is only allowed in exceptional circumstances and by agreement with the Clinical Nurse Managers.

The restrictions were introduced due to the volume of patients with suspected Norovirus, in the interest of patient care, and in order to curb the spread of the bug within the hospital.

Hospital General Manager, Fearghal Grimes says the winter vomiting bug is prevalent, but the number of cases is reducing.

Anyone that’s been affected by vomiting and / or diarrhoea, or who have been in contact with anyone with these symptoms are asked to stay away from the hospital until they’ve been symptom-free for 72 hours.

Anyone with queries about visiting times or visiting a particular ward should ring the Hospital in advance on 066 718 4000.
