Street brawl breaks out in Listowel town

A number of patrol cars were called to the scene of a premises in Listowel on Saturday night when a fracas broke out following a serious assault on a male. Gardai would not be drawn on the number of people involved in the incident however eyewitness reports estimate up to thirty people began fighting both inside the premises and on the street.The brawl is understood to have lasted for up to half an hour while Gardai attempted to bring the situation under control. It occurred shortly after half past one in the morning. An ambulance was called to the scene and the man, who is local, was taken to Kerry general to be treated for his injuries. No arrests were made however gardai say their inquiries in to the matter are ongoing.Meanwhile in Ballybunion a twenty year old male was arrested Saturday night for possession of a knife. The man who is not local was seen by gardai brandishing the weapon and was arrested at 2:30 am. A file is being prepared and will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
