Still no clear timeline on resumption of hip and knee replacement operations at UHK

There’s still no clear timeline for when hip and knee replacement operations will resume at University Hospital Kerry.

They’ve been stopped in recent months, and were due to resume two weeks ago and then this week, but neither deadline was met.

General Manager of UHK, Fergal Grimes says he can’t say when they will start, but they are working on this happening soon.

Meanwhile, the General Manager of University Hospital Kerry says they’re making progress with the recruitment of consultants.

Fergal Grimes was speaking after the consultant board met with the CEO of the South/South West Hospital Group to convey their concerns about the number of consultants leaving the hospital.

Mr Grimes is confident the hospital will soon have the full complement of consultants they need.

He says the new contracts will be attractive, in that the positions will be based between Kerry and Cork.
