Staff involved in Liebherr industrial dispute picket plant

A group of workers at Liebherr Killarney, who are involved in an industrial dispute, are to picket the plant today. Liebherr picket300 SIPTU workers have already initiated an overtime ban as part of the dispute with the company. The German container crane company was established in Kerry in the 1950’s. This industrial dispute centres on a pay claim lodged with the company by SIPTU in 2009. Liebherr has rejected the union’s claims that staff are entitled to a pay increase over the past five years. Five years of talks with the Labour Relations Commission failed to resolve the claim and last week staff voted overwhelmingly for industrial action. An offer from the company for 2014 onwards has been rejected by SIPTU. The union says it remains open to meaningful talks to resolve the issue. The company says it offered numerous invitations to talks. The rostered picket involving the staff is expected to run all day.
