St Finians Hospital Killarney due to go on sale

A special committee headed up by the Mayor is to be set up in Killarney to work towards the purchase of St Finian’s Hospital. The facility is set to close and the Health Service Executive is to put the building up for sale within the next 2 years. At last night’s meeting of Killarney Town Council Cllr Sean O Grady asked that a group be formed to put a plan together for the future of St Finians. He said if the town is serious about buying the building then it’s vital that people band together and be ready when it comes on the market. It was agreed that interested community groups be asked to provide a representative for the committee which will include The Mayor as well as 2 Town Councillors. The group will then compile a report on how the town should go about acquiring the facility and what it would do with the hospital once it was purchased. It’s anticipated that it will take a further 2 years to find suitable and appropriate accommodation for the existing patients and no sale will be agreed until that is complete.
