World number two Carlos Alcaraz is safely through to the second round at the US Open.

The Spaniard accounted for the challenge of Reilly Opelka in straight sets last night.

In the women's draw, world number five Mirra Andreeva beat Alycia Parks in straight sets.

And Karolina Muchova overcame the challenge of Venus Williams in three.
